Patterns & Instructions for American Needlework
This is a box of patterns and instructions for American Needlework. Published in 1963 by the editor's of Woman's Day Magazine. The box contains numerous patterns for embroidery, patchwork, appliqué, rug hooking, cross-stitch and many more forms of traditional needlework. I have shown a partial listing of the table of contents below.
Here you have a wonderful opportunity to own the patterns for some of the best examples of needlework in American museums. I own the companion book to this set of patterns and was very excited to find another set of the patterns to share with you.
To the left you can see a photo of the box and patterns spread out. The box is in 'good' shape but it does show wear. The patterns are in excellent shape as are the instruction leaflets inside. The color pictures are from the companion book, which is not included in this auction. Patterns for the pictured projects are included. The pattern sheets do have pictures of the projects in black and white. Many of the patterns are full size but some are on grids and will need to be enlarged for use.
Some of the quilt patterns included are: Star of Bethlehem, Sunburst, Delectable Mountains, Prince's Feather & Rising Star, Charter Oaks & Eagles with Rose Wreaths, Eagle Quilt Top, Oak Leaf Coverlet, Pine Tree, Dolly Madison's Star, Mariner's Compass, Oak Leaves & Cherries, Wreath of Pansies and many more. There are also quilting motifs such as, Eagle & Stars, Daisy, Pineapple.
A partial list of rug patterns are; Garden Bouquet, Wreath of Roses, Eagle, Bengal Tiger, Mare & Foal, Trotting Pony, Aubusson-patterned Rug, Hen with Basket of Eggs, etc..
